If you’re on Slimming World and you love yogurt — good news. There’s a whole category of yogurts that are completely Free on the plan, and once you know the rule, it’s easy to shop confidently. The basic principle: fat-free AND unflavoured = Free. Anything flavoured, full-fat, or high in added sugar will have syns. This guide covers every major brand I’ve personally checked — including the ones that catch people out.
Fat-free plain yogurts with no added sugar are Free on Slimming World. Here’s a quick reference of the syn-free options you’ll find in most UK supermarkets:
| Brand / Product | Flavour | Syns | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Muller Light Plain | Natural / plain | Free | Plain pot only |
| Fage Total 0% | Plain | Free | See our Fage full guide |
| Onken Fat Free Natural | Plain | Free | Big pots, great value |

| Any supermarket fat-free natural yogurt | Natural / plain | Free | Check label: 0% fat, no added sugar |
Here’s the big table — covering all the brands you’ll see in the yogurt aisle. Syn values are per pot unless stated. Always double-check your Slimming World app as recipes change.

If you want something with a bit more flavour but don’t want to blow your syn budget, these are the best options ranked by syn value:
| Rank | Product | Syns | Why It’s Worth It |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Any fat-free plain yogurt | Free | Unlimited, versatile, use in cooking or with fruit |
| 2 | Muller Light (flavoured) | 0.5–1 | Feels like a treat, massive range of flavours |
| 3 | Danone Light & Free (flavoured) | 0.5–1 | Creamy texture, good flavour variety |
| 4 | Activia Fat Free Plain | Free | Gut-friendly, widely available |
| 5 | Yeo Valley 0% Flavoured | 2–3 | More natural ingredients if that matters to you |
These are the ones that look healthy but will quietly drain your syns. I’ve been caught out by a few of these myself — especially the “gut health” branding on Activia.
| Product | Syns | Why So High |
|---|---|---|
| Muller Corner (any flavour) | 7–8 | Full fat base + high-sugar corner |
| Arla Protein Yogurt (flavoured) | 5–6 | High protein version isn’t low syn |
| Fage Split Pots (fruit/nut topper) | 5–8 | The topper is all the syns |
| Full-fat Greek yogurt | 8–12 per 100g | Fat content is very high |
| Activia Gut Health (flavoured) | 2–3 | Not syn free despite “healthy” branding |
| Any yogurt with granola/toppings | 8–15+ | Granola alone is 8–10 syns |
If you’re comparing Slimming World with WW or cooking for someone on both plans, here’s how the most popular yogurts stack up on WW points (per pot, approximate):
| Product | SW Syns | WW Points (approx) |
|---|---|---|
| Fat-free plain yogurt (any brand) | Free | 0 |
| Muller Light (flavoured) | 0.5–1 | 1–2 |
| Danone Light & Free (flavoured) | 0.5–1 | 1–2 |
| Activia Gut Health (flavoured) | 2–3 | 3–5 |
| Arla Protein (flavoured) | 5–6 | 4–6 |
| Muller Corner | 7–8 | 7–9 |
| Full-fat Greek yogurt (100g) | 8–12 | 8–13 |
Almost — but not quite. Most Muller Light flavoured pots are 0.5 to 1 syn, not fully syn free. A handful of flavours do come in at Free, but the majority carry a small syn value. The plain Muller Light pot is Free. Always check the Slimming World app for the exact flavour you’re buying. See our full Muller Light syns guide for a flavour-by-flavour breakdown.
Only if it’s fat-free and unflavoured. Fage Total 0% plain is a great example — it’s Free and it’s delicious. Full-fat Greek yogurt, however, can be 8–12 syns per 100g, so it’s not one to eat by the bowlful. Flavoured Greek yogurts (like honey & walnut) will also have syns. Stick to the plain 0% versions and you’re good. Full breakdown in our Fage Total 0% guide.
No — not the Gut Health range. Activia Gut Health flavoured pots are typically 2–3 syns each. The “gut health” branding makes them sound like a free food, but the sugar content means they’re not. Activia Fat Free Plain is Free, but make sure you’re picking up the right one in the fridge aisle. This one trips a lot of people up.
Technically yes — Free foods don’t have a set limit on Slimming World. But the plan does ask you to use common sense. Eating two large tubs of yogurt a day probably isn’t what the plan intends. Most consultants will tell you to listen to your hunger and not eat for the sake of it. A couple of pots a day is totally fine for most people.
The lowest syn option is any fat-free natural yogurt from the own-brand range at Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda, Morrisons — they’re all Free. They’re also usually the cheapest option in the aisle. If you want branded, Fage Total 0% Plain and Onken Fat Free Natural are both Free and easy to find. For Aldi shoppers, see our full Aldi yogurts syns guide.
No. Arla Protein yogurts are 5–6 syns per pot for the flavoured versions. Despite being marketed as a high-protein, healthier option, the syn value is quite high compared to other yogurts. The added protein doesn’t make them syn free on Slimming World — it’s the overall nutritional profile that matters. If you want high protein and low syns, plain Fage 0% or Skyr are better choices.
