Does Red & White Wine Have A Lot Of Syns?

Having a glass of wine at the end of a long day is a way for many of us to wind down, but alcohol wine with a cheeky glass here and there can have a lot of calories and must be counted as syns on the slimming world plan.

For a whole bottle of wine that is red, it on average has around 25-30 syns depending on the make, with a white bottle of wine being around the 20-26 syn mark.

So as you find out whether or not you drink wine as part of the slimming world diet, how many syns a glass has and some other kinds of low syn alcohol, have a look at our small guide below.

Can I Drink Wine On The Slimming World Diet?

Can I Drink Wine On The Slimming World Diet?

There is no reason as to why you can't drink wine in moderation on the slimming world diet, a glass of wine here and there can help your feel as if you are not restricting and be a treat on the weekend.

As we mentioned above, red wine can have up to 30 syns, while white wine is more around the 26 marks, for a 250ml glass, this could be around 10-12.5 syns, while a glass of wine that is white might be around 10 syns.

How Many Syns In 125ml Of Red Wine?

125ml of a decent red wine would contain around 5-7 syns, highly dependant on the quality of wine and manufacturing process.

Many people might save their syns during the week so as they can have a bigger size glass or even a bottle at the weekend, but this might encourage a binge restriction cycle, so spreading your alcohol consumption out could be better.

It is worth noting that the syns in red wine and white wine doesn't just vary due to the type and size, but also due to the per cent. For syns wine wise, the higher the alcoholic percentage it has the more syns the independent wine is likely to have.

Take this example, if you have a 175ml glass of red wine which has a percentage of 10.5-12.5% Vol, on average this will be around 7 syns for the glass, however, if you have the same 175ml glass of red wine which is around 12.5-13.5%, this will be 8 syns for the glass.

Rose wine is one of the sweeter wines on the market and has a pretty similar value to white wine syns, for a glass that is 250ml, you are looking at using 9-10 syns depending on the percentage of the rose wine.

Other Low Syn Alcohol Alternatives

As wine is quite high in syns, and no one wants to drink low syn weak wines, it might be worth checking out other low syn alcohol drinks you can have if you are looking to wind back and relax without having to worry about going over your syn allowance.

Tips For Cutting Down Alcohol With Slimming World

Cutting Down Alcohol

If you are used to having a glass of perfect wine every day or drinking a lot of alcohol at the weekend, then cutting back might prove a little hard for some people.

To make this transition easier for you, we have listed our top tips below to help you reduce your alcohol consumption and enjoy it in moderation without going over the tipping point.

  • Have a glass of water in between - Drinking water in between each glass of wine is a great way to cut back, not only because your stomach will be getting full of liquid, but you will be able to judge more when you have had enough.
  • Go for a smaller 175ml glass - Opting for a small 175ml of wine rather than a full 250ml glass of wine can be a game-changer and help you cut back on alcohol consumption without you even realising!
  • Measure your drinks - Measuring out your drinks properly can help you make wiser choices and count the syn values of your alcohol or rose wine properly, just guessing what a 175ml glass is in a bigger glass is not always accurate.
  • Stick to a plan - If you are going out with friends, set yourself a 2 glass or three drink limit, make sure you hold yourself accountable.
  • Make sure you have days off - It's a good idea to have two or three days a week where you don't drink any alcohol, this allows your body to rest and reset.
  • Switch to lower syn types - Lower syn options are easy to choose, for example, opt for a light beer rather than a regular.
  • Eat well before - Never drink on an empty stomach, this gets you drunk faster and can lead to poor judgement, making what was one glass of rose wine three before you know it!

Final Words

Overall, enjoying your perfect wine at the weekend or after a long day is fine on the slimming world plan, just ensure you count the syns and have it in moderation. If you don't like low syn wine choices, opt for your perfect wine and save your syns for that glass or two.

Smaller portions of your wine tastes the same too, so opting for the small glass rather than the big one will save you more syns.
