Can I Eat Go Ahead Bars On The Slimming World Diet?

If you are looking for a quick snack on the go then Go Ahead bars are an easy choice, but as these are not classed as free food on Slimming World you will have to check their syns.

Go Ahead crispy slices have 3 syns per crispy slice for the Forest Fruit version and the Apple and Sultana version, they come in packs of 5 so if you ate the whole pack this would set you back 15 syns in total which is your whole allowance for the day.

In our guide below we will go over the other syn allowances of the Go-Ahead bar range, some other low syn bar alternatives and how to make your own SW friendly breakfast bar for mornings when you are in a rush.

Do Go Ahead Bars Have a Lot Of Syns?

Go Ahead bars per slice do not have too many syns, as we mentioned above, however, one slice is small, so eating the whole pack would set you back quite a few syns if your syn allowance is the average of 15.

This is down to the high sugar content in the bars from the fruit paste and flavourings which make them higher in calories.

We will list all the syn values of the Go-Ahead range below.

  • Go Ahead Fruity Cake Bites Orange & Lemon 136g - 3 syns per bar.
  • Go Ahead Fruity Cake Bites Raspberry & Strawberry 136g - 3 syns per bar.
  • Go Ahead Apple Fruit Bakes 6 per pack - 6.5 syns per bake.
  • Go Ahead Fruit & Fibre Slices Strawberry 5 per pack - 3 syns per slice.
  • Go Ahead Fruit & Fibre Slices Blueberry 5 per pack - 3 syns per slice.
  • Go Ahead Yoghurt Breaks Forest Fruit 5 per pack - 3.5 syns a slice.
  • Go Ahead Yoghurt Breaks Red Cherry 5 per pack - 3.5 syns a slice.
  • Go Ahead Yoghurt Breaks Strawberry 5 per pack - 3.5 syns a slice.

As Go Ahead bars and slices are pretty high in syns and sugar per slice, you might be looking for some lower syn alternatives if you are after a low syn quick snack bar or breakfast bar.

How To Make You Own SW Friendly Breakfast Bar

For people who don't have time to cook breakfast in the morning, these fruit crispy slices and oat bars make a convenient choice to have on the go, but with all the flavourings fruit and sugar per slice, they can be pretty unhealthy.

We have put together a great low syn slimming world recipe to try for making your own 'on the go' bars, these only have 2.5 syns per bar with half a healthy extra B and make 12 from the recipe.

Ingredients

  • 200g of rolled oats.
  • 25g of dark choc chips.
  • 2/3 cup of water.
  • 60g of dried cranberries.
  • 2 tbsp of honey.
  • 25g of dried dates.
  • 1 banana.

Method

  • Step one - Blend your dates, oats, water, banana and honey until smooth then put it into a bowl.
  • Step two - Add half of the dried cranberries and choc chips then combine with the mixture.
  • Step three - Tip the mixture into a lined baking tray and press down till it is all even, sprinkle the rest of the chocolate and cranberries on top pressing them on lightly.
  • Step four - Refrigerate overnight and there you have it, your own low syn brekky bars!

Final Words

To conclude, Go Ahead bars are pretty high in syns, with 3 syns for a crispy slice and 15 syns for the whole pack of five. Instead, we recommend either having a slice of fruit, checking out a lower syn alternative from our list above or making your low syn bar with our recipe to keep you on track.

Always watch out for high sugar and fat content in these breakfast bars, they can often be advertised as healthy but contain a fair amount of calories which means higher syns.
