Can I Eat Chocolate Eclairs On The Slimming World Plan? - Our Syn Guide
If you fancy a chocolate eclair on the slimming world plan, you can happily enjoy a sweet or two, as long as you make sure to track the syns of your chocolate.
Chocolate eclairs have on average 10 syns per eclair, making them a high syn sweet treat for when you feel like something chocolaty, we would suggest only eating them in moderation.
To find out more about why chocolate eclairs are so high in syns, syn values and some low syn alternatives, we've put together a guide with everything you need to know, also including a healthier eclair recipe.
Why Are Chocolate Eclairs So High In Syns?
At around 10 syns on average for an eclair, these dessert cakes are very high in syns, costing you most of your daily 15 syn allowance. Chocolate eclairs get their high syn value from not only the chocolate and pastry but also the cream inside which is very high in fat and sugar.
For example, one average chocolate eclair can have up to 15g of fat, 9g of which is saturated which is the bad fat, plus up to 16g of sugar, making them very unhealthy. Still, this doesn't mean you can't enjoy the occasional chocolate eclair on the SW plan, you just have to make sure that you have enough spare syns.

Our Lighter SW Chocolate Eclair Recipe
If you are a lover of chocolate eclairs, but can't afford to keep spending the syns, you can make your own lighter eclairs for fewer syns, which still taste delicious without as much guilt!
We've listed the recipe details down below.
Ingredients
Pinch of salt.
Two spoons of granulated sweetener.
Two eggs.
1/3 cup of self-raising flour.
1/2 cup of dark chocolate.
Half a cup of low fat spread or butter.
Nine spoons of reduced-fat spray cream.
Method
Start by heating your oven to gas mark five then put the sweetener into a pan followed by the butter, salt and 2/3 cup of water, bring to a boil then take off the heat and stir in your self raising flour.
Add your eggs then beat, put into a piping bag and pipe your eclairs onto a prepared baking tray, bake for an hour.
Once cooled down, you can put them in the freezer or spray a spoon of cream into each cut eclair, melt your chocolate and drizzle on top then serve!
Last Words
To conclude, chocolate eclairs are a very high syn cream cake, having between 10-15 syns for one eclair, this is due to the high sugar and fat from the cream and chocolate in the cake. To save syns we suggest choosing mini sized eclairs, making your own or picking another low syn cream cake from our list of alternatives above.
