Do Oat So Simple Golden Syrup Porridge Sachets Have a Lot Of Syns?

On the go, porridge sachets are essential for many of us who have busy mornings and need to get going quickly, but with the extra flavourings and milk powders, these sachets can be pretty high in syns if you are not careful.

Oats so simple golden syrup porridge has approximately 6.5 syns in for a 36g sachet making it very high syns and nearly taking up half your daily syn allowance!

We have created a small guide below which will take you through why Oats So Simple sachets are so high in syns, which porridge is syn free, other syn values of the Oat So Simple range and some lower syn alternatives.

Why Is Oat So Simple Golden Syrup Porridge So High In Syns?

You might be shocked to learn that a small sachet of oats could have such a high amount of syns, but this is down to the high sugar content and fat from the golden syrup flavouring inside which contributes to syns.

Some porridge sachets are made with full-fat milk powder too making them extra high in syns, you would only have to have two of these sachets to nearly exceed your 15 syn allowance for the day.

Which Porridge Is SYN FREE?

If you are looking to have syn free porridge on the SW plan you will need to make it yourself, this has to be weighed to 40g as it counts as your Healthy Extra B for the day (fibre allowance), anything over 40g will need to be counted as syns.

When making your porridge you should also ensure that it has no flavourings, you can use fruits such as berries which count as your speed food instead and use your Healthy extra A (dairy allowance) as your milk to make the porridge with.
