Nando's is one of the most Slimming World-friendly restaurant chains in the country, and I say that with absolute confidence. The reason is simple: the core product is grilled chicken, and grilled chicken is a free food on plan. That is not a trick or a loophole — it genuinely means you can sit down at Nando's and eat extremely well without blowing your syn allowance before pudding.

The problem is everything that surrounds the chicken. The sides, the bread, the sauces, the coleslaw — that is where the syn cost creeps in. A quarter chicken breast on its own is just 3 syns. Add a portion of garlic bread and a coleslaw and you have added 13 more syns before you have touched a single piece of chicken. That is not a disaster, but it is worth knowing about so you can make a conscious decision rather than an accidental one.

If you want a carb side, corn on the cob is a reasonable 3 syns. Avoid garlic bread and coleslaw — at 7 and 6 syns respectively, they cost more than your entire chicken order and do not add much to the meal.
