How Many Syns in Almond Milk Unsweetened?

Unsweetened almond milk sits at the very low end of the plant milk syn range, making it one of the most versatile dairy-free options for anyone following Slimming World. At just 0.5 syns per 100ml — and approximately 1 syn per 200ml serving — it is a fraction of the cost of oat milk or the barista versions of soya milk, which can easily eat through 2–3 syns in a single cup of coffee.
The most important thing to get right from the outset is the label. Sweetened almond milk — which often goes by "original" or "vanilla" on supermarket shelves — has added sugars and is noticeably higher in calories, pushing the syn count up significantly. Always go for "unsweetened" or "no added sugar", and check the back-of-pack nutritional information if you are ever unsure. As a rough guide, unsweetened almond milk should contain no more than around 13–15 calories per 100ml.
One of the most common mistakes on plan is pouring generous, unmeasured splashes of almond milk into smoothies, cereal, or overnight oats without accounting for the total. A 300ml pour — which is easy to do without thinking — adds up to around 2 syns. That is perfectly manageable, but it needs to be logged. If you are making a batch of porridge, measure the almond milk beforehand so you know exactly what you are spending.
For everyday drinks, unsweetened almond milk is an excellent swap for cow's milk if you have already used your Healthy Extra A. At roughly 0.5 syns per 100ml, it is considerably lower than the approximately 1.5 syns per 100ml you would pay for semi-skimmed beyond your HExA allowance. A splash in your afternoon tea barely registers on the syn count.
One thing worth being clear on: almond milk does not qualify for the Healthy Extra A on Slimming World, regardless of brand or variety. Only approved dairy milks and a small number of verified alternatives make the HExA list. Almond milk always needs to be synned — even if the amount is small, it should go in your food diary.
