It should however be noted that tinned sweetcorn is very high in carbohydrates which can spike your blood sugar and even lead to weight gain in some people, so we would avoid eating it excessively. Some tinned sweetcorns also contain extra sodium, so we would always recommend choosing the unsalted natural tins.

Most tinned veg is syn free on slimming world as long as it's not stored in any oil or flavourings, you can check this within the tins ingredients. Any veggie which is syn free, the tinned version likely is too.

Some people assume that tinned veggies are less nutritious than fresh veg but this is not true, tinned veg does retain most of its nutrients, only some specific veg start to degrade after being tinned.

Many people get confused between syn free veggies and speed veggies in a slimming world which can lead to weight gain on the diet. Speed veggies are vegetables that are said to have a better nutritional value on the slimming world plan so should make 1/3 of your plate.

Sweetcorn Chowder

Ingredients

  • One onion, leek and potato chopped up.
  • Two tins of sweetcorn drained.
  • Three garlic cloves.
  • Litre of stock.
  • Three spoons of Greek fat-free yoghurt.
  • Chopped chives.
  • Small chilli chopped.

Method

  1. Place your veggies, stock and one and a half tins of sweetcorn into a pan, bring to a boil and simmer for around 20 minutes.
  2. Allow the soup to cool down the blend until smooth.
  3. Add your sweetcorn back in as well as the yoghurt, chilli and chives. Serve hot!

Sweetcorn Fritters

Ingredients

  • Two spring onions.
  • Two eggs.
  • Half a red chilli.
  • One can of sweetcorn.
  • Chopped chives.

Method

  1. To begin, blend up your onions, chives, 3/4 of the sweetcorn, chilli and eggs up, then add your sweetcorn and mash together with your hands.
  2. Spray a pan with low cal cooking spray then cook the fritters for around 3 minutes on each side.

To conclude, tinned sweetcorn is a syn free food on slimming world, but we would not suggest eating the veggie excessively due to its high starch content which can spark blood sugar in some people, we also suggest avoiding sweet corns with added salt.
