How Many Syns in Yogurts on Slimming World?

By Jenny Updated

Yogurt is one of those things I genuinely couldn't do Slimming World without. It's in my breakfast bowl most mornings, stirred into curries as a cooler-downer, dolloped onto jacket potatoes, and — if I'm honest — eaten straight from the pot at about 10pm when the biscuit tin is calling my name.

The brilliant news is that a huge range of yogurts are completely Free on plan, meaning you can eat them without counting a single Syn. The key is knowing which ones make the cut and which ones quietly pack in enough fat to cost you a few Syns.

As a rule, anything fat-free or 0% fat tends to be Free, while full-fat or Greek-style yogurts with real cream content will have Syns attached. I've put together a full breakdown below — free pots, synned options, and plenty of tips for getting the most out of your yogurt habit on plan.

There really is no need to give up your yogurt fix; you just need to reach for the right pot.

FAQs

Which yogurts are Free on Slimming World?

Any fat-free or 0% fat plain or flavoured yogurt is generally Free on Slimming World, as long as it doesn't contain added cream, nuts, or granola. Muller Light in all flavours, Fage Total 0%, Activia 0% Fat, Yeo Valley 0% Fat, and Arla Skyr Natural are all Free. Always check that the fat content is effectively zero — even a small amount of fat can push a yogurt into Syn territory. Flavoured 0% fat versions are usually fine, but steer clear of anything described as 'creamy' or 'indulgent' as these almost always contain added fat or cream.

Is Greek yogurt Free on Slimming World?

It depends entirely on the fat content. Fage Total 0% Greek Yogurt is Free on plan because it contains no fat. However, full-fat Greek yogurt — including Fage Total 2%, Total 5%, and most supermarket full-fat versions — will cost you Syns, typically 4 to 7 Syns per 150–170g serving. The thicker, creamier texture of traditional Greek yogurt comes from fat, and that is where the Syns come from. If you love Greek yogurt, the 0% versions are genuinely excellent and still thick enough to satisfy — I use Fage 0% in tzatziki and raita all the time without anyone noticing the difference.

What about Skyr — is it Free on Slimming World?

Yes, Skyr is Free on Slimming World, and it has become one of my absolute favourites on plan. Arla Skyr Natural and most plain Skyr varieties are 0% fat and very high in protein, making them incredibly filling for zero Syns. The thick, almost Greek-yogurt-style consistency means it works brilliantly stirred into overnight oats, as a dip base, or simply eaten plain with some berries. It is definitely worth trying if you haven't already — the protein hit keeps you fuller for much longer than standard low-fat yogurts and it doesn't have that thin, watery quality some fat-free yogurts can have.

Can I use yogurt in cooking on Slimming World?

Absolutely, and this is one of the best ways to make your Syn-free yogurt work hard in the kitchen. Fat-free natural yogurt is brilliant as a substitute for cream or soured cream in curries (always add it off the heat to prevent splitting), as a marinade for chicken, stirred into soups for creaminess, and used as the base for dressings and dips. Just make sure you're using a 0% fat version to keep it Free on plan. Muller Light and Activia 0% tend to be sweeter, so they work better in desserts — save the plain fat-free naturals for savoury cooking where a neutral flavour suits the dish.

Is Activia Free on Slimming World?

Activia 0% Fat yogurts — both plain and flavoured varieties in the range — are Free on Slimming World. The standard full-fat Activia range does carry Syns due to the higher fat content, so always check you're reaching for the 0% version when you're browsing the yogurt aisle. The 0% range is widely available in most supermarkets and comes in natural, strawberry, vanilla, and several other flavours, which makes it easy to keep a good variety in the fridge and snack freely without touching your daily Syn allowance. Look for the blue-and-white packaging to identify the 0% line quickly.

How many syns is an Actimel on Slimming World?

A standard Danone Actimel Original 100g bottle is 4 syns and around 76 calories. The Actimel 0% Fat range drops that to around 2 syns per bottle, and the Actimel Multifruit 0% Fat is among the lowest of all branded probiotic shots on plan. Actimel is not a Healthy Extra on Slimming World — the bottle is too small to qualify under the calcium HExA rules — so the only way to use it is by counting the syns. If you drink Actimel daily, switching to the 0% Fat version saves roughly 14 syns a week without changing the routine. Yakult Light is the closest direct alternative at around 1.5 syns per shot, and most supermarket own-brand probiotic shots track close to those figures.

Is the fat content of a yogurt the only thing that affects its syn value?

Fat content is the single biggest driver, but it isn't the only factor — added sugar, syrup layers, cream toppings, granola sprinkles, and dessert-style chocolate flakes all push the syn value up regardless of the base. A 0% fat yogurt with a separate sugar compartment (think Müllerlight Greek-style with a fruit corner versus a plain Müllerlight) can carry 1–3 syns where the plain version is free. The reliable rule of thumb is: if the label shows under 1g of fat per 100g and no separate sugar or topping compartment, it's free. Once the fat creeps above that or there's a 'Greek-style', 'creamy', or 'indulgent' flag on the front of the pack, expect syns. Liberté Méditerranée at 4% fat is a good cautionary example — it looks like a plain Greek pot but lands at 7 syns per 150g.

Are kids' yogurts like Petits Filous and Frubes free on Slimming World?

Some are, some aren't. Petits Filous Fat Free pouches at 85g are around 0.5 syns each — close enough to free that many members treat them as a syn-free snack, though strictly they need counting. Standard full-fat Petits Filous pots are 1.5–2 syns per pot because of the milk fat. Frubes (Yoplait) and most fromage frais squeezy tubes for kids sit at 1.5–2 syns each. Munch Bunch Drinky+ pouches are around 2.5 syns. If you're raiding the kids' fridge for a quick afternoon hit, the Fat Free Petits Filous pouches are the lowest-syn choice and the easiest to fit in without much planning.
