How Many Syns in Wine?
By Jenny Updated
Wine is one of life's little pleasures, and if you're doing Slimming World you'll be relieved to know it doesn't have to disappear from your life entirely. The plan doesn't ban alcohol — it simply counts it in your daily or weekly Syns allowance, so you can still raise a glass at a birthday dinner or enjoy a Friday night wind-down without feeling like you've ruined everything.
The Syn values for wine are calculated in exactly the same way as every other food on the plan: roughly one Syn per 20 calories. A standard 125ml pub measure of red or white wine comes in at around 4 Syns, which is very manageable within a 15-Syn daily budget. Where people tend to go wrong is with the portion size — a large 250ml glass almost doubles the count to 8.5 Syns before you've even touched the crisps on the table.
Prosecco and champagne tend to be slightly higher than still wine because of the residual sugar from the secondary fermentation — expect 4.5 Syns for a standard prosecco flute and around 5 Syns for a true champagne. If you're at a celebration and want to keep Syns low, ask for a smaller pour and top it up with sparkling water for a makeshift spritz.
The real game changer for nights out is swapping to spirits with slimline mixers. A 25ml measure of gin with slimline tonic is only 2.5 Syns — less than a small glass of wine — and you can keep sipping all evening without the count spiralling. Vodka with soda water is equally low. If wine is non-negotiable for you, look out for low-alcohol versions (0.5% ABV) which can drop as low as 1.5 Syns per 125ml glass.
My biggest tip for nights out: eat a proper Slimming World-friendly meal before you go, decide your Syn budget for drinks in advance, and stick to small measures or alternate with sparkling water. That way you can genuinely enjoy a glass of something lovely without the next-morning regret — or the frantic calculating.

Lower-syn alternatives
Swaps that keep the feel of the original without the syn hit.
Slimline G&T (25ml gin + slimline tonic)
2.5 SynsNearly half the Syns of a 125ml glass of wine and you can nurse it for just as long. Gordon's, Hendrick's and Tanqueray are all around the same value.
Alcohol-free wine (0.0%)
~1 Syn per 125mlMost 0.0% wines come in at around 15–20 kcal per 125ml, so roughly 1 Syn. Brands like Nozeco and Eisberg have improved massively — genuinely drinkable and perfect for driving nights or Dry January.
Vodka (25ml) with diet lemonade
2.5 SynsSame Syn count as a gin and slimline, clean taste, and works well with flavoured diet mixers if neat spirits feel too harsh.

"Switched to prosecco from red wine at Christmas and actually saved a Syn per glass. Every little helps when you're trying to hit target!"
"Torres Natureo is my absolute saviour. 1.5 Syns for a glass that actually tastes like wine? I bring my own bottle to family dinners now."
FAQs
How many Syns is a glass of wine on Slimming World?
A standard 125ml glass of red or white wine is approximately 4 syns on Slimming World. A 175ml glass is around 5.5 to 6 syns, and a 250ml large glass can reach 8 to 8.5 syns. Rosé is similar to white wine at the same measure. Prosecco and Champagne are slightly higher per 125ml at around 4.5 to 5 syns due to residual sugar content.
Is prosecco lower in Syns than wine?
Prosecco is actually very slightly higher than still wine — around 4.5 Syns per 125ml flute compared to 4 Syns for a standard 125ml white or red. Champagne is higher still at around 5 Syns per flute due to its calorie density.
What is the lowest-Syn alcoholic drink on Slimming World?
Spirits with slimline or diet mixers are the most Syn-efficient option. A 25ml measure of gin, vodka or whisky with a slimline tonic or diet mixer is approximately 2.5 Syns — roughly half the Syns of a small glass of wine.
Can I drink wine every day on Slimming World?
You can include wine within your daily Syn allowance (usually 5–15 Syns), but a daily glass of wine at 4 Syns leaves less room for food treats. Many members prefer to save their alcohol Syns for weekends to give themselves more flexibility during the week.
Does low-alcohol wine count as Free on Slimming World?
No — low-alcohol wines still contain calories and are therefore Synned. However, a 0.5% ABV wine like Torres Natureo comes in at around 1.5 Syns per 125ml, which is significantly lower than a standard wine. Truly alcohol-free (0.0%) options can be as low as 1 Syn per glass.
