Big Mac In A Bowl – Fakeaway Recipe!
Burgers. Burgers. Burgers. Surely you can’t replicate the burger goodness and still stick to Slimming World?
I’m very happy to say that you can!
It may not be the traditional burger we all know (and very much love) but it gives you that “I’ve had a burger feeling and that makes me happy” kick.
One thing I can vouch for is that burgers don’t need to come in a bun to be tasty – as a big burger fan, this was a pleasant surprise.
You even get a tasty sauce to go with. It feels naughty but somehow it’s totally allowed!
Time: 25 minutes
- Low calories spray cooking oil
- 500g beef mince, 5% fat or less
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- ½ iceberg lettuce, shredded
- 8 gherkins, sliced
- 1 red onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
For the Sauce
- 2 tbsp extra-light mayonnaise
- 5 tbsp fat-free fromage frais
- 1 tbsp American-style mustard
- 2 tbsp tomato puree
- 2 tsp white wine vinegar
- ½ tsp garlic salt
- ¼ tsp garlic salt
- ¼ tsp onion granules
- ¼ tsp sweet smoked paprika
Add your spray oil to a large non-stick frying pan and place it on a high heat.
Once it’s up to heat, throw in the beef, onion and garlic. Stir fry all of them for around 7 to 8 minutes – or until the beef is cooked through and the onions have softened.
At this point you should take the pan of the heat and drain any fat from it.
Add some seasoning at this point!
Time to make the delicious burger sauce!
Combine all of the ingredients for the sauce into a bowl and add 4 tbsp of water. Whisk it all up until it’s combined well.
Mix the lettuce, gherkins, onions and tomatoes together. Then divide them between 4 bowls, for each portion.
Divide the beef mixture up between the four bowls and then add the Slimming World super sauce onto the burgers.
There you have it! Tasty, healthy burgers for the whole family!
How Does Slimming World Work?
Slimming World is said to be the number one weight loss program in the country. So many people have had huge successes by following it.
So if you’re considering becoming a member, you may be wondering what it’s all about and what it involves?
Your daily food intake is broken down into four categories;
- Free food
- Healthy Extra A’s
- Healthy Extra B’s
Free food should make up most of your day – the best things in life are free so they’re bound to be delicious!
Within free food, there is also speed food.
With both speed food and free food you can eat as much as you like. That’s right, you don’t need to weigh them or control the portions.
Foods that are considered to be naturally filling and low in fat are free foods. Things such as;
- Lean meants
These are all free foods.
While Slimming World say you don’t need to weigh these food and you can consume as much as you want. Please do keep in mind that there are still calories in these foods.
The best piece of advice I can give you is to listen to your body. To eat when it tells you to, not because the clock is saying that’s when you usually eat.
When you are hungry, try to reach for food in this group first.
Healthy Extra A
Now this is where you start having to weigh things out. You are allowed 2 portions from this food group.
Healthy Extra A are dairy foods.
You must weigh these out and control your portion sizes.
This is where you do need to be honest with yourself. Going over the allowed amount can see that you gain weight.
A word of caution to the tea and coffee drinkers out there, this can be tricky to keep yourself in check.
Overtime you will get used to less milk in your drink. I promise you that!
Healthy Extra B
Healthy Extra B is where you’ll get your fibre from and you are allowed one portion per day.
Again, as with Extra A, these portions must be weighed and controlled.
There are lots of things in the Healthy Extra B category so if you need a sandwich or cereal fix, this is where you’ll find it.
You can eat from this food group at any point of the day but just remember to stick to one portion. Whether you split it up or not, is completely up to you.
Syns will provide you with your naughty fix.
Everything that is ‘bad’ for you is a syn, chocolate, alcohol, crisps, you get the idea!
So anything that doesn’t fall into the above categories is a syn and you have to count it towards your daily syn total.
You can find out what syn different items are on they Slimming World database.
The amount of syns people are allowed does vary and is calculated based on your weight, sex and other factors.
The syn allowance range is pretty vast (15 – 35 syns per day) so it’s incredibly important to get this worked out for you by a Slimming World consultant otherwise you may find that Slimming World doesn’t work for you.
It’s very important that you keep your body well hydrated – it also makes you feel full so you can find yourself eating less, win win?
Water, black tea and coffee along with most sugar free drinks don’t carry any syns so major on these beverages.
Anything else, you will need to work on based on the database.
Drinks are an area that can be a bit of a revelation for people when they start losing weight. There can be a lot of calories in drinks that we consume without realising it.
Can I Save My Slimming World Syns Up And Use Them In A Day?
It does work better if you spread your syns out over the week.
Having said that if you know you’re going to be eating a big meal at the weekend, then you can save up all your syns for then. This means that you won’t blow your syn count for the week.
So as a rule, spread your syns out but feel free to bank them occasionally.
Do I Have To Use My Slimming World Syns? Will I Lose More Weight If I Don’t?
Sure, you don’t have to use up all of your syns. You don’t have to eat any if you don’t want to.
The reason syns exist is because it can make Slimming World seem more like an eating plan rather than a diet. This is what makes it successful.
People are more likely to stick to a plan if they don’t feel like they are being to restricted and missing out on things.
If you really want a chocolate bar but you can’t have one, it makes you want one more, right?
However if you can have it, you might not go through with it and eat.
Syns make you think about what you’re eating and the effects of them. That’s what it’s all about long term, knowing how to monitor what you’re eating.
That doesn’t mean you’ll be on Slimming World forever, oh no, but you will be more aware of how to control your food intake. This is how you stop yourself from being a diet forever!
